Meladerm Review
- A Natural Answer to Brown Spots?
Review Meladerm for Brown Spots on Face and Skin
Our Meladerm Review was
prompted by the high number of visits we get to our Brown Spots on Face page, which provides useful information for people enduring
what some people may refer to as age spots or sun spots, or one of the two types of keratosis (the fancy name for
these brown spots), seborrheic keratosis and actinic keratosis.
Options for removing brown spots with so-called “natural” products are plentiful, but effective and safe options
are scarce. Many contain ingredients that can produce fairly quick results, but that may damage your skin in the long term or have other
harmful effects.
You might want to check our Skin Care Product Ingredients to Avoid page to help you evaluate a skin care
product ingredients label.
We took a closer look at a promising skin lightening
product, Meladerm®, which Civant Skin Care put years into researching and
developing and after 4 years of testing made available to the public.
Here are the results of our Meladerm Review:
Product: Meladerm Skin Lightener
Company: Civant Skin Care
Rating:
Meladerm Claim
One of the things that surprised us about Civant Skincare is that they don’t make any
outrageous claims suggesting you will have clear skin in 10 days, or radiant skin in one week, as do so many other skin care
product companies.
They show the same caution in presenting their Meladerm Skin Lightener product
as they did in researching, developing and testing it.
They do suggest you may see a change for the better in your skin after about two weeks, if the cream is used in combination with proper
exfoliation.
But more realistically, best results for obtaining a lighter, more even complexion, and the fading of brown spots, will appear after two
to three months.
If that seems like a long time to you, then you might want to consider the possibility that your skin cannot heal overnight, or in a
couple of weeks. Some products may give you what look to be quick results, but then that initial success turns out to be a temporary result that
quickly fades soon after.
A longer period of healing and restructuring of the skin appears to make more sense, as the change is happeniong from the inside out,
not just on the surface. Well, that at least is the idea, and the claim.
Meladerm Review Evidence
We took a look at three factors that we see as potential evidence to back up Civant’s
claim that their Meladerm Skin Lightening Cream does what the company claims it does: the science
behind it, the ingredients, and customer feedback.
- Scientific Angle - Without getting
overly technical, let’s just say that Meladerm is formulated in such a way as to address the causes of brown spots on the skin at the level
of enzymes and amino acids. Got that? Okay, we said we weren’t going to get overly technical, so let’s just say that melanin,
which is the natural pigment that produces the color in your skin, is synthesized in these tiny organelles called
melanosomes. The amino acid tyrosine is converted to melanin within these melanosomes through the action of
tyrosinase, an enzyme. Brown spots developing on areas of your face and body are the result of too much melanin being produced in
those specific areas of your skin. Civant’s approach is to address both the melanosomes and the enzyme tyrosinase, which scientifically makes
a lot of sense.
- Ingredients – Civant Skin care prides itself on being
super careful and methodical when formulating their skin care products. Meladerm contains a number of active ingredients that are derived
from natural extracts, including mulberry, licorice, and bearberry. The Meladerm formulation is quite elaborate and carefully designed. A
quick glance at the ingredients label might put some people off, but long, strange-sounding scientific names don’t mean the ingredient is
good or bad. We counted over 50 ingredients, but of these we only had a problem with the inclusion of Triethanolamine, a ph
stabilizer, which may cause allergic reactions in some persons. Other than that, the list seems fine. No parabens, no mineral
oils, no hydroquinone. Even the alcohols that are used are the skin-friendly variety, not the ones that dry out the skin. What sets Civant’s
skin care products apart from much of the competition, and what could make the Meladerm Skin Lightener an
attractive option for some people who want to get rid of the brown spots on their face and skin, is the attention to maintaining and
preserving the effectiveness of the active ingredients. Active ingredients in skin creams and other skin care products have a tendency to
deteriorate. Other companies will use the same or similar ingredients in their products, but won’t invest the time, effort, and money to
ensure their effectiveness. Civant uses a special micronizing and filtering process to ensure their active ingredients perform at highest
efficiency. In addition, the base ingredients have preservative and moisturizing properties and allow these active ingredients to be absorbed
deeply into the skin for optimal results.
- Customer Feedback – You can talk about melanin and
enzymes and active ingredients and micronizing and filtering processes, but a product’s reputation ultimately depends on how customers
respond to the product. Did it help them solve their skin condition, did it have no effect, did it make things worse? The Civant web site has
a whole section called “Real Stories,” which provide testimonials from real people who have used Meladerm or other Civant skin care products.
They actually break it down by year, so you can read what customers had to say about their experience using these products back in 2005 or in
2010. We think this is a super idea, and for us, the most effective piece of evidence any company or product can
present.

Meladerm Review Findings
Negatives:
- We had no problem with the over 50 ingredients used in the Meladerm
formulation, except for one. We would have preferred Civant not include the ph stabilizer Triethanolamine,
which has been shown to produce allergic reactions in some persons. This could be a negative for some people, but obviously
Civant does not consider it an important enough consideration.
Positives:
- Civant Skin Care thoroughly and carefully researched and developed Meladerm over a
period of 4 years, resulting in a product they consider extremely safe and effective in diminishing the appearance of brown spots, liver
spots, sun spots, freckles, birth marks, old scars, hyperpigmentation and discoloration on the skin.
- When used with proper exfoliation, results can begin in as little as two weeks, but
optimum results can be achieved in two to three months with patience and commitment to using Meladerm correctly.
- As stated above under Evidence, the science behind the product is quite sound. The
Civant web site includes studies that show the effectiveness of some of their ingredients in reducing the appearance of brown spots.
- Strong list of ingredients, but more importantly, what separates Meladerm from
other skin lighteners is the sustained integrity and quality of its active ingredients. The properties and combination of base
ingredients ensure the active ingredients are at peak efficiency and delivered deep into the skin for optimal results.
- Powerful “Real Stories” section on web site containing many customer
testimonials describing their experience with Civant skin care products.
- Complete Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) section on web site that addresses most
of the concerns the average person might have regarding Meladerm and Civant Skin Care.
- Reasonably priced, especially when compared with other inferior products.
- 30-day money back guarantee – full refund on used or unused
products.
